Andrew Fazackerley was born and raised in Bolton, Lancashire, in the north west of England. He took his first piano lessons at age 7. His first paying gig began at age 12 at a dancing school, playing for the dance lessons. There he learned sight-reading skills and how to play music for ballet, jazz, modern, and tap dancing.
As a teenager Andrew began his life-long love affair with jazz. He played trombone in the brass band and swing band at his school. By age 15 he was working with different bands as a keyboard player (and occasional trombonist) playing in pubs and clubs around the North of England.
After two years at Bolton Technical College he quit formal education to become a full-time musician. He spent the next several years traveling the world touring with bands, and also playing on cruise ships throughout Europe and the Caribbean.
Andrew settled, between contracts with the cruise lines, in Miami’s South Beach where he played on the jazz scene performing with Lionel Hampton, Nestor Torres, Henry Gibson (the world's most recorded percussionist), Ira Sullivan and many others. There he met his wife Diane and settled in the USA.
In 1992, after hurricane Andrew, Andrew and his young family moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Andrew quickly established himself on the music scene regularly performing at hotels, nightclubs, conventions, weddings, theatre shows, - just about every kind of gig you could imagine. In Atlanta he has played with Aretha Franklin, Martha Reeves - 'Martha and the Vandellas', Bobby Vinton, the Atlanta Pops Orchestra, Tommie Macon and The Gentle Men Of Jazz, the African American Symphony Orchestra (their only white English pianist!), and many other local and national artists. He is also frequently to be found in the pit orchestra at Atlanta's famous 'Fox Theatre' - recent shows he played there include 'Spamalot - the musical', 'Sweet Charity', Aretha Franklin in concert, and others.
Since becoming established as one of the busiest pianists in Atlanta, he has also become a recording studio owner and engineer. He has produced recordings for many local musicians including Tommie Macon and the Gentle Men of Jazz, Joel Levi (conductor emeritus Atlanta Symphony Orchestra), Johnnie Eason, The Cascade Avenue Be-Bop Society, as well as his own CDs. He has also been studying classical pipe organ repertoire for the last fifteen years or so and is the choir accompanist at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Stone Mountain GA.
Now, Andrew continues to perform jazz, classical, and all kinds of music throughout the city; he accompanies his church choirs playing everything from Bach and Mozart to Kirk Franklin, plays with ensembles of all sizes from solo piano and jazz trio to big band and orchestra; and he continues to compose, arrange and record his own and others work. He has been known to say, and is frequently quoted “It’s all about the music.”
